I have selected for you the best fashion documentaries – some latest releases and my long-time favorites – to watch during the Holiday season. So get cozy with your cup of tea/hot chocolate and Christmas biscuits for a great session of fashion.

Most of them are available on Netflix, HBO, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime. Just type “fashion” in the search bar on the platforms to find the ones available at the moment and check often because the titles available vary.

In Vogue: The 90s

Disney+ and Hulu released this summer a new docuseries that reveals the inside story of the 90’s most celebrated fashion, pop culture, and style moments as well as iconic covers and supermodels, told by Vogue editors Anna Wintour, Edward Enninful, Tonne Goodman, Hamish Bowles, and many guest stars, including Victoria Beckham, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, and other A-listers of the 90s.

The Supermodels

Apple TV released in September a long-awaited documentary about the rise of the original supermodels. These are Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, and Christy Turlington.

Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge

The film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Trish Dalton, tells the story of the iconic fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, her life, and her eponymous brand. Streaming on Hulu and Disney+.

High & Low: John Galliano

This highly-awaited documentary about John Galliano premiered was released last year. Directed by Kevin Macdonald’s, the documentary focuses on the rise and fall of the British designer. It includes appearances from Sidney Toledano, Anna Wintour, Naomi Campbell, Charlize Theron, Amanda Harlech, Penélope Cruz, and Kate Moss.

Unzipped

This cult documentary from 1995 focuses on the iconic New York City designer Isaac Mizrahi and his 1994 fall collection. 

Discovering –

Amazon Prime has a series of short. These are less than 30-minute documentaries about Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, and Tom Ford. A good way to learn about fashion designers in a short time.

Victoria’s Secret World Tour

This documentary follows Victoria Secret’s last show from December 2018, before the iconic lingerie brand made its triumphant return on the runway this year. “The Victoria’s Secret World Tour”, part fashion event and part documentary, introduces 20 global creatives from Bogota, Lagos London, and Tokyo who worked on the new collection.

Dior and I

This documentary tells the story of Raf Simons creating his debut couture collection at Dior in 2012. Though he is no longer at the house, his chapter at Dior was memorable. It is a must-know to learn about the history of the luxury brand.

Wonder Boy

This documentary follows Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing. It follows the search for his origins and explains how he reinvented the French luxury house.

Very Ralph

This documentary tells the story of Ralph Lauren, the designer of the American dream.

Franca Chaos and Creation

This is a documentary about Franca Sozzani, former editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia who passed away in 2016. It tells about the personal life and career of this incredible woman who you may remember for the fantastic and high-impact covers but also for her commitment to making fashion a more varied and inclusive place.

Mademoiselle C

This documentary focuses on the editor and stylist Carine Roitfeld, who ran French Vogue from 2001 to 2011 and founded her publication CR Fashion Book.

Calendar Girl

Ruth Finley was a central character in the New York Fashion Week, launching the Fashion Calendar in 1941, which was instrumental in setting up a scheduling system for fashion shows to avoid conflicts between the dates and the times.

Discover the journey of Dries Van Noten, who founded his eponymous label in 1986 and retired in 2024.

Casablancas: The Man Who Loved Women

John Casablancas founded Elite Model Management, the famous modeling agency, in 1972 in Paris. Westwood: Punk. Icon. Activist

The documentary follows the life of the late Vivienne Westwood. It follows from her start as a groundbreaking punk-fashion influence to being named British Designer of the Year two years in a row in the early 1990s, to running her business with her husband of more than 15 years, Andreas Kronthaler. The film also shows Westwood’s environmental activism, including taking part in marches and going on a trip for Greenpeace.
