While I always encourage you to turn dreams into an actionable plan to break into the fashion industry, there is nothing wrong with indulging in a sweet dream once in a while – especially around the Holidays 🎄
Grab a journal or start a Pinterest board to map out where you see yourself in the fashion industry. Whether it’s working backstage at shows, writing for top magazines, or managing collections, this exercise will inspire you to take action.

2. Learn an In-Demand Skill
Fashion roles often require skills that aren’t taught in school—like mastering Excel for buying, merchandising, or e-commerce. Why not use the holidays to get ahead?
I was personally tested on Excel during my job interview for Alexander McQueen and it wasn’t just me. Excel if you have already noticed, is listed in 90% of fashion jobs and internships as an essential requirement. And the best way to acquire new skills from home? Online resources! You can read books, watch YouTube videos, or take online courses (so you also have a certification to add to your resume/LinkedIn profile).

Feeling like postponing your fashion job search to next year? Think again. While it may be tempting to put all your plans on hold, as I explained in my recent article, this is NOT yet the time to do it. Many fashion companies hire in December both for jobs and internships that start now ( I started my first internship on Dec 13th!), but also to fill the positions that will begin in 2025, so they hire either last minute or in advance. So you can still apply before Christmas day and step into the new year relieved, with newfound confidence and your dream job in pocket.
Research roles to understand which job in fashion is made for you, refresh your resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn, and learn how to reach out to recruiters. A little preparation now can set you up for a successful job hunt in the new year.
