What a year this has been. Though 2024 wasn’t my favorite year in fashion, there were still many epic moments.
With the year coming to an end, it’s a good moment to reflect on the milestones that have happened in fashion in 2024 for every fashion enthusiast and aspiring professional, and, of course, those who already work in the industry.
Fashion is fast-paced and rapidly evolving, so it can be hard to keep track of all the events, launches, and appointments year-long. That’s why we are here to make things easier for you by recapping the top fashion moments that defined this year.
Cheers to fashion in 2024 and we are already excited to see what the new year will bring!
Fashion In 2024
Top Fashion Moment of 2024: The Ins and Outs at Brands
2024 will likely go down as the year of musical chairs in fashion. The industry saw a notable shift as many fashion directors, including some who had been in their roles for decades, stepped down and were replaced by old and fresh talent.
Matthieu Blazy of Bottega Veneta just stepped into the much-coveted position of Creative Director at Chanel, after 3 successful years at Bottega Veneta. Pierpaolo Piccioli parted ways with Valentino after 25 years at the house, including 8 as creative director, with Alessandro Michele taking over his highly coveted post. The industry was also shaken up by John Galliano’s departure from Maison Margiela after 10 years as creative director, as well as Kim Jones’ exit from Fendi and Hedi Slimane’s farewell at Céline.
Other fashion brands also found their new leaders. Givenchy welcomed Sarah Burton, Zac Posen joined GAP Inc., and Bulgari created a new role of creative director of leather goods and accessories, naming Mari Katranzou for the post.
This year of musical chairs must have been a bit hard to follow, which is why we recapped all the changes in creative directions that occurred this year in our annual Glam Observer Report 2024. Download it here free of charge.
The Hottest Brand of 2024: Miu Miu
We asked our audience (+100 collected answers) what was the brand on the top of their minds this year, and they voted for Miu Miu. Prada’s sister label was recently chosen as the hottest brand of Q3 2024 – proof that the obsession with the brand stays high. Besides the ongoing popularity of ballet flats and hot pants, Miu Miu has spiked another trend – keychains and charms and launched a new Upcycled collection of denim. Finally, Miu Miu’s runways continued to be among the buzziest of fashion week, and the Wander bag and holiday campaigns brought the brand more spotlight throughout the year.
Biggest deal of 2024: Mytheresa acquired Net-a-Porter
The biggest deal of the year, according to us, was Mytheresa acquiring Net-a-Porter from Richemont (which bought the company in 2010.) The deal is set to close in the first half of 2025.
According to The Business of Fashion: “Richemont said it would recapitalise Yoox Net-a-Porter to have a cash position of €555 million ($609 million) and no debt,” and “receive a 33 percent stake in the combined entity with Mytheresa,” adding that the two companies “will continue to exist as two standalone e-commerce sites.”

Top Fashion Show of 2024: Maison Margiela Artisanal Show
John Galliano’s Artisanal Spring – Summer Couture show for Maison Margiela won our hearts this year and was undoubtedly one of the top fashion shows of 2024. Held under the Pont Alexandre III during the first full moon of the year, more than a catwalk, it was a truly theatrical experience combining everything one loves about a good show: the exquisite clothes, artistic hair and makeup, and the transporting set design.
But of course, this wasn’t the only epic show this year. Victoria’s Secret made a comeback runway after a 6-year hiatus and Coperni closed the Spring Summer 2024 season at Disneyland Paris. In addition, many brands celebrated their anniversaries this year – Marc Jacobs’ 40th anniversary being among the most talked about.

Top Magazine moment of 2024: Marc Jacobs co-edited Vogue’s December Issue
One of the major moves that happened this year in the media industry is a special American Vogue December issue edited by Marc Jacobs (hello again). It was the first time the magazine had ever named a guest editor in its history! The designer chose to feature Kaia Gerber on two covers – one photographed by Steven Meisel and another painted by Anna Weyant.
In the Glam Observer Report 2024, we also feature the best magazine covers of the year, as well as top campaigns, trends, events, products, and more.
