In case you still don’t know, almost one year ago I launched the Glam Observer Membership to create a community of girls in fashion. Our members have access to exclusive career tips, webinars, one on one consultations, networking events, the WhatsApp and Facebook group to network, and much more. So our members get everything they need to get into the fashion industry.
The girls who joined the membership so far, are all amazing girls who are building their career fashion. They are fashion students, fashion interns, girls who didn’t study fashion but who want to work in this industry and girls who want to make a career change in fashion or who want to start their own fashion brand.
One of our members, Maite was selected for a business lab in fashion and luxury at her university and she visited the Dior offices in Milan, where she met withsome managers who gave her some great career tips. I asked her to share the tips she got from the Sales Director Parfums at Christian Dior and she wrote the tips for us. If you want to work for a big luxury company such as the brands of LVMH, you need to know these tips.
It is obvious that most people strive for a job at places like the LVMH Group because as we all know, it is a cool place to work at; it gives you a sense of being part of a luxury family and most of all, adds up to your own image as a professional. Keeping this in mind, it is important to keep in mind the following tips if you ever want to be part of the LVMH family:
1.No boundaries, more opportunities
Even if you don’t get the chance to be in the luxury industry for your first job, it’s okay to even start in a mass-market company (the sales director of Dior actually started out his career selling diapers). Everything will get you a chance to learn and your first five years of work experience are the most important to define where you’re going to end up.
2.Don’t be afraid of trying new things
For example, if you’re sure you want to work in marketing, don’t be afraid of learning it in a company that does something completely different from what you aim to do.
3.Make time for your passions
LVMH wants people that have other things to talk about than just the business. Once you get inside the industry you won’t have time, so you better take that extra time you have to develop your hobbies and other passions that you may have.
4.Always have something to say
The truth is, even the people that are inside the company for years are still learning and so having an opinion on something is better than not having any opinion at all.
5.Have an entrepreneurial spirit
At LVMH, they look for people who dare to innovate every single day and think out of the box. Even if you work for a historical brand like Dior, you should be able to still look at it as if it was a startup because that is the only way new creative ideas will emerge.
6.Learn to have some autonomy
One thing that differentiates LVMH from the rest of the groups is that each brand works in autonomy, and inside each
