Emily Weiss, who grew up in Connecticut, moved to New York to attend New York University Art School and to start her career in fashion. From sophomore she entered the world of fashion with an internship at Teen Vogue that continues until the senior year.
After graduation, Weiss worked as a fashion assistant at W magazine and then she assisted Elissa Santisi, a style director at American Vogue ,during this time, Weiss started Into the Gloss in September 2010 to coverage beauty products .
After a couple of years, Weiss began to hire people to form a team for intothegloss.com which had grown rapidly.
In 2013 Emily started to have the idea of Glossier and in the fall of 2013, Weiss raised $2 million in a seed funding round led by Ben Lerer of Lerer Hippeau Ventures and Kirsten Green of Forerunner Ventures Weiss used the money to grow the Into The Gloss team and realise the concept for Glossier.
Glossier launched in October 2014 with an Instagram campaign and an initial launch comprised of 4 skin-care products. Today , after 5 years, Emily Weiss has collected $ 10.4 million, has a team of 38 people and Glossier has reached 7 products.
