Well it is that time of year again…the time all us fashionistas are glued to our phones and computers to see the latest collections from the top designers. September (also known as fashion month) is the most exciting and anticipated month of the year. If you are new to the industry you may be thinking why is watching Fashion Week so important? If you choose to work in fashion it is essential to be on top of all events/news happening in and around your industry.
Working in fashion is about more than having good style, it requires great knowledge of the business and appreciation of the art. Your responsibility as a fashion worker is not only support the designers but also have an understanding of all areas within the industry. Watching fashion shows will not only help give you an idea of the upcoming trends for the season but will also help you identify distinctive characteristics for each designer so you can train yourself to look at a piece of clothing and know who the designer is, this is a great skill to have. If you’re a student this is one of the best ways to get inspiration for designs, creative direction and even seeing how a fashion show is put together.
For all you bloggers out there who cover the shows by doing reviews/highlights the most important thing to remember is staying up-to-date and relevant. If you’re writing a blog post about a certain show make sure to publish it the same day as the show or it will be irrelevant and your audience will have already seen multiple posts about the same show from other bloggers and media outlets. You want to draw your audience in with a unique perspective and come up with creative ways to do show reviews and give your opinions on the collection so you’re content isn’t getting lost among the hundreds of other bloggers.
The style inspiration doesn’t end on the runways, look out for the fashion-forward street style choices worn by the attendees. To some this is their favourite part of fashion week and is also another great topic to cover if you’re doing show reviews.
