With so many different fashion schools all over the world, it’s very difficult to find the right fit for you. All schools offer different programs with majors in fashion design or fashion business, and the courses taught differ from school to school.
To help you with your choice of fashion school, we decided to interview some current and former student to give you all of the insider’s information.
The first school we talked about is Mod’Art International, based in Paris, France then we talked about Polimoda based in Florence Italy and today I want to share the opinion about the FIT Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.
- What did you study at FIT?
My major was Fashion Business Management and I had a double specialization in Fashion Management and Buying & Planning
• Why did you choose FIT?
I chose FIT because they had the best course curriculum that focused on my interests and I knew that New York City would be the best place for job opportunities within the industry, especially with all of FIT’s amazing connections.
• What did you like the most?
Some of my favorite things about FIT were living in New York City, all of the courses were so interesting and targeted right into my major and the professors had a ton of knowledge and industry experience. You are also surrounded with like-minded people who love fashion and are just as motivated and ambitious as you are.
• What didn’t you like?
At first I didn’t like that FIT isn’t the typical “college” experience, but once you get past that it is still an amazing experience in general.
• Did you have any work experience that the school found for you?
FIT has a career center where they post many job opportunities and there are many counselors who help you in your career path. I found my first two (paid!) internships through the schools job board and this work experience was extremely vital and helpful for me. They were amazing experiences.
• How many students were in your classrooms?
Our classes are very intimate with around 25 people per class, so it never felt like a huge lecture, which I enjoyed.
• Would you recommend FIT more for design or business fashion courses?
I loved FIT business classes, but I know their design programs are just as good.
• Would you choose again FIT?
Absolutely!
• How long after your graduation did you find your job?
I had secured a job upon graduation, about a week before the end of classes.
• Did the school support you to find your first job/internship?
I found my first two internships through FIT, which helped me gain so much work experience and ultimately put me where I am today in my job. I also had a professor my last year who was always forwarding us job opportunities from companies and helping us to form connections.
