The career world has totally changed with social media. If before the only way to get a job was to apply online by submitting your CV, today you can get career opportunities by building an Instagram profile and/or starting a blog. All the contents published online expose us to the whole world, including recruiters who increasingly evaluate the candidates’ social profiles before calling them for an interview, as confirmed by Alessandra Ricci, Talent Acquisition Manager at Burberry and Kristina Rodulfo who check Instagram before hiring assistants at the fashion magazine.
Knowing how to build an excellent personal brand online is essential to build your reputation and showcase your knowledge and expertise in the industry. But having a nice Instagram profile or a website that shows your work and acts as a portfolio, is not the only way to find a new job opportunity whatever it is: collaborate with a brand as an influencer, become a content creator, social media manager…
At the base of social media is the sense of community, and this is the beating heart. Without it, everything else would not exist. Building a community means interacting with people online to create a connection, which, although virtual, can turn into something significant for your career or even just in terms of personal relationships. The number one way to interact with other people online is to leave comments on Instagram.
By leaving comments under Instagram posts I do not mean just a simple emoji, those will only serve to receive some profile visits from those who are commenting on that post, but if you want to get something more profitable, you must leave significant comments, those in which for example, you express your opinion and that allows those who read you, to understand your point of view, personality and find in you that something that convinces them not only to visit your profile, but to contact you to establish a relationship.

Commenting is the most effective way to make people discover you and your work and build relationships. A comment turns into a series of direct messages then emails, calls and maybe a meeting in person if you live in the same city.
You must leave significant comments obviously under the posts published by profiles that mean something and that have the potential to turn into something. If your goal is to become a stylist, then it will be better to leave comments under stylists or fashion magazines or photographers posts to get a collaboration, work together on a project or become a stylist’s assistant. If you want to write for a fashion magazine or online site, it is better to comment on publication accounts or editors and writers. While if you want to work in a fashion company, leave comments under the posts of your favorite brands and accounts related to the fashion industry such as BoF, which
But remember to leave not only intelligent comments but also relevant to the topic communicated in the post. You cannot copy/paste your comment and leave it anywhere and it is not always possible to comment on each post. You have to find the right comment that can best show your skills in the industry. Forcing a comment just to say something doesn’t make sense and could actually damage your image. So if you have something to say, think about it and make a comment that leaves its mark, otherwise, go ahead and find a post that can inspire you with meaningful words and concepts.
Commenting on other profiles on Instagram it’s not just a strategy used to grow your Instagram followers, but if used correctly, it represents a great way to get noticed by the right people and get fantastic opportunities.
