How she got her Fashion Internship in 8 days

Hannah is interning at a big fashion magazine. Her story is inspiring and you can use it as a guide on what are the correct steps to take in order to get your dream job in fashion.

Hannah started applying for fashion internships straight after her graduation day.  After a month and a half of applying to many internships,  she still wasn’t getting any responses or calls from any company šŸ†˜

After 46 days, 22 submitted applications and 0 responses, she was struggling with getting an internship and unmotivated but she was still believing in her dream on getting in fashion.

She then saw on Instagram ine of my webinars and decided to sign up. During that webinar I explained the do’s and don’ts of fashion job application and I also pre-launchedĀ my new online courseĀ .

She enrolled in the course and was actually my first official studentā¤ļø That’s why I immediately reached out to her after she completed the course, to ask for her feedback.

She watched all the lessons in just two days and after 3 days she was already applying again for fashion internships. But now differently.

Here is everything she did to (finally) get her first fashion internship in 8 days!

1. The first thing she did was identifying her place in the fashion industry.  Even though she had more or less clear her career path, she completed the exercise in the first module and found her ideal role in fashion. Which turned out to be working at a Fashion Magazine. Identifying the right fashion job is essential for a successful job application. Many people are struggling with getting a job because they apply for opportunities that don’t fit them for the skills and/or experience required.

2. She then started looking for internships on the different websites that I recommend in the course and by choosing the right filters, she found 4 interesting fashion internships that were perfect for her

3. Before applying for these 4 internships, she cleaned up her social presence and started working on her personal branding, so that each social media profile (Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn) was ready when fashion recruiters would have checked them after receiving her application (but also because in the course she learned that a good personal branding can lead you to a job even without applying for it!).

4. As soon as her Instagram and LinkedIn profiles were ready, she downloaded the 3 CV and cover letter templates from the course. She chose her favorite CV template butĀ created 4 different versions of it as well as 4 different cover letters, one for each job offer. The number one rule of a successful fashion job application is fitting the CV and the Cover Letter to each job and don’t use the same documents for all the jobs.

5. Of the five job application strategies proposed in the course, she used the number one: applying online. But forĀ one of the four internships that seemed the most competitive, (an internship at an established fashion magazine with already 300 applicantsĀ – and yes, from the course she also learned how to find out the number of applicants for a job offer),Ā she sent an email directly to the recruiter and the editorĀ for a more direct approach (strategy N. 2) . In the course, she learned how to find the emails of all those who work in fashion and used the email template to reach out to them so it was very easy to do that.

6. While waiting for a response from at least one of the 4 companies, she continued looking for other internships, started building her network of people working in fashion and finished reading the e-book on how to prepare and face each step of the job interview with a fashion company (included for FREE in the course as well) .

7. After 3 days (Thursday) she received the first call from the company she had applied both online and via email. The phone interview went well and she received an invitation to go to the offices on Monday for the first in-person interview!

Wooooohhh! šŸ¤©

8.The next day (Friday) she received a second call from another internship šŸ„³ to which she had only applied online and even here, after the phone interview, the recruiter invited her to come over for the in-person interview on Wednesday!

9.The other two fashion companies haven’t responded yet (sometimes fashion companies can even call you 2 months after you applied!!), but her story has a happy ending because she nailed her Monday interview and got her first internship!

I can’t reveal the company because of her privacy (some fashion companies don’t allow their employees to talk about their positions, which is the reason why finding people to interview for Glam Observer is one of the hardest things we deal with.)

Her story is very inspiring and I hope it helped you understand the correct steps needed to get your internship in fashion!

If her story has also inspired you to check my online course on “How to Break into the Fashion Industry” , I hope to see you in the course to discover all the fashion industry secrets on turning an application into a success, getting your dream job/internship in fashion and mastering your networking and personal branding skills
