Hey there!
It’s Giada here as usual BUT this time I’m not sharing a new fashion career tip, but something special and enormous that has happened last week and that I want to share and dedicate to all of you!
Last week on Tuesday evening around 10pm I discovered that I was on the Forbes under 30 list with an entire page of my face on the new March issue of Forbes Italia that would come out on newsstands the following day !!!
I immediately started hyperventilating! Being on the Forbes under 30 list has always always been a huge dream of mine!
More than a dream, this was something I fantasized about every year when the #1 business magazine in the world publishes the list. I’ve always admired everyone who had made it into the list as a celebrity because Forbes had recognized them and their business.
I’ve always fantasized about how much I would have liked to be on this list someday. But never, ever, I thought it could happen.
Not because I don’t believe in Glam Observer or anything else, but because I thought it wouldn’t be a business that could end up on the list. Yet my contribution and career guidance provided to those who want to start a career in fashion have placed me at the forefront of the Education category for what I teach about getting a job in fashion.
I still cannot believe it!
That evening I was super excited and I couldn’t wait to see the magazine the following day! Luckily the digital version was already available and we immediately downloaded it and then, there I was, a 27 years old, the founder of Glam Observer, who started from nothing wearing a pink jacket, in the Education category of the Forbes under 30 list.
The girl born in the south of Italy, who moved to Milan some years ago to start her career in fashion, and that, in the end, have quit her job to launch a career platform that over the last years has helped fashion enthusiasts getting a job at companies such as Valentino, Dior, Prada…
Wow. I made it. Look at me, I’m on Forbes! 😭😭😭🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Over the past years, I’ve never waited for others to approve or recognize my work. I know that if you’re a new business the same as when you’re starting a new career, very few people notice and know about you. I’ve never pretended people to notice me to keep going. So I’ve adopted a mindset of being my #1 fan. When nobody believed in me, I was still believing in myself. After all the NOs, the mistakes, the failures I’ve always kept being my #1 fan and going on every single day working even harder.
And maybe that’s the reason why in the end, I made it to the list.
Over the past 3 years, I’ve measured my success only with the results of my students and the community. Every message or email that I’ve gotten has made me feel satisfied and fulfilled. You have motivated me and made me understand that the work I’m doing is having a positive impact on someone, so I’ve kept going.
Then I got the first recognitions on Marie Claire and Elle and by Vogue Italia and Dior professionals. And they were already so special to me.
But let’s be honest, despite you don’t wait for other’s approvals, when you see yourself on an entire page of Forbes, you consider it as an additional sign that you are on the right track. That you are doing something good!
Forbes has always been a personal dream of mine and this recognition, more than for myself, I’m glad I got it for you! To make you trust me and the advice I share here, on the podcast and in the online course even more.
There is also a funny story about it.
In the podcast episode on how to set your fashion career goals, one of the tips I share is to write down your 10 goals of the year every morning.
Can you believe me if I say that one of my goals was to be on the Forbes under 30 list??
It’s incredible I know, but as I explain in that podcast episode, when you set your goals you have to write down all the things you want to achieve, no matter how crazy or far they seem. The list is for you, nobody else should read it, so write down all your goals, dream big and don’t worry if they seem crazy! You should see mine! There was the goal of being on Forbes which is practically unthinkable, can you imagine how the rest of my list looks like?
So, I want to end this post with something I wrote on LinkedIn when I made it to the list:
“Giving up seemed the easiest path many times over the last 3 years.
But…I’ve kept pushing and working hard every single day despite all the NOs and all the challenges. I’ve always believed in my project, born in my small room with just a laptop and a couple of $$ for a domain glamobserver.com . I’ve always believed in my mission of helping others achieve their fashion career dream. And now also one of my dreams has come true! I’m on the Forbes 30under30 list in the Education category! I still can’t believe it!
I remember myself looking at the people on this list like superstars, people who made it with their business and today I’m on that list too! One of that pinch-me moment that I still cannot believe!
I’ll keep doing more and more as I’ve always done over the past years to provide my community with the best resources ever!
And with this big accomplishment, I’m even more confident that if you really believe in something, and you do work hard you can get anything you want! 💪🏻
Dream big but most of all, make a plan to turn your dream into a reality!
Thank you for being part of this amazing journey! I hope to inspire and support as many of you as possible achieving your dream of getting a job in fashion!
If I made it, you can make your dreams come true too! Let’s do it together 💪🏻💪🏻
