You know I love bringing you the stories of amazing girls who work in the fashion industryto chat about their career. The last person I spoke to wasRosie, the founder of two Fashion PR Agencies, and today I have a new inspiring story for you. I asked Sinead Crowe, full-time blogger, Youtuber and Instagram star, to share with us her career journey, from studying fashion retail management to her first career as Stylist, her bad experience as Fashion Buyer and how she become a full-time blogger and works with brands.
1. Can you introduce yourself and your blog?
I’m a UK fashion blogger, 28 years old, engaged and with the most beautiful little puppy! I blog about fashion, beauty and lifestyle with a focus on personal style!
- What did you study?
I went to university at Birmingham City University and I studied fashion retail management
- What was your dream job out of school?
I wanted to be a stylist, and I was for a while. However I always dreamt of being a stylist on magazine and editorial shoots or something along the lines of Jenna from 13 going on 30 for sure! I ended up working in E-commerce which is of course the exact opposite!
- When and why did you start your blog?
I started about 3 years ago now and I started it originally as something to show people when I went for styling jobs and to try and get into more creative styling and away from the generic, boring e-commerce work I’d got stuck in.
- Why did you have such a bad experience as Fashion Buyer?
For me it was about the people I worked with. The environment was toxic and the people I thought were my friends actually drove me to the edge. Eventually, the stress caused me to have a nervous breakdown. I think it definitely had a worse effect on me as I’m a creative person and I wasn’t allowed to thrive there.
- Are you a full-time blogger or do you also have a job?
I’m a full-time blogger now! I’ve been full-time now for around 1 year and a half!
- You have a great Youtube channel where you share styling videos and haul. Why did you feel the need to start even a Youtube Channel?
I wanted to if I’m honest! I really enjoy watching youtube and I just wanted to share more on there! I definitely love creating videos for it and I know my channel isn’t huge so I would say to me it’s more of a hobby!
- What do you prefer? Blog, Youtube or Instagram? And Why?
This is so hard. I adore writing for my blog and pouring my heart out but youtube is fun and new. Then there’s Instagram which not only do I love, but I also detest! I would say my blog is my baby and if I could only have one then it would be my blog every time!
- How do you organize yourself to manage all of them?
I don’t! I try and be a few days ahead wherever I can and make use of time on trains etc! If I’m honest, I just work fro around 7am – 11pm each day and that’s how I fit it all in!
- What are the factors that make you say ‘yes’ to work with a brand and the factors that make you say ‘no’?
I love working with brands and trying new things so I’m definitely open to collaborations. I also think as a stylist and a fashion blogger, if I work with a clothing brand it might be something you wouldn’t think of at first but I could find something amazing or even not so amazing and style it in a way that makes you realise the potential of the store. Like a style challenge! I am very picky more when it comes to beauty, food and lifestyle. It has to be products I have tried and love and content that fits in with my fashion content in a natural way.
- What do you think about pitching brands to ask for collaborations?
I think it’s a great idea. I have spoken to so many PR’s that would love for people to come to them with great ideas. They’re so busy and to always have to come up with ideas it’s hard. If you’re goingto pitch a branddon’t just say “I want to work with you” say why, say why you’re a great fit and tell them what you will do for them, come to them with an idea if you want to impress them!
- What advice would you give to fellow bloggers when it comes to collaborations?
I would just say to make sure you don’t lose your voice to make sure you fit a tick list. Particularly for my blog, I will write the post naturally and go back over the brief afterward to make sure I’ve covered all of the points needed. I find it’s the best way to be genuine rather than just writing facts and ticking all of the boxes.
- You are gorgeous girl! And have a fantastic sun-kissed skin and golden hair. What are your beauty secrets and favorite products?
Ah thank you so so much! I’m actually naturally not very tanned but I’m a fake tan addict! I love the Loving Tan 2 hour express tanwhich I use overnight and mid-week I top it up with the Isle of Paradise Dark Tanningwater! For my hair, I’m a huge fan of the Gisouhoney infused hair oil. For my face, my number 1 product would have to be the Estee Lauder Advancednight repair serumand the eye cream!
- How does a day in your life look like?
Oh my gosh my days are always so different. A lot of my family live near me and if someone has free time to spend the day with me I am more than happy to put my work off and work through the night. So sometimes I am going for lunch and coffee then working late and sometimes I’m shooting, filming, emailing all day long. Usually I go to London once a week for meetings and events but I try to stay home as much as possible with my little Poochon puppy Penelope! She’s the best!
