Yesterday was the day of the long-awaited debut of the first Prada fashion show with the new co-direction of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons.

The physical show was broadcast totally online, like most of the shows of this new edition of Fashion Week in the different fashion capitals.

If you missed the show you can watch it below:

Aware that many would have liked to know more about how it was for the two designers to collaborate and work together on their first collection, the brand directly gave the possibility to ask questions on Instagram, thus responding not only to the curiosities of journalists but to those of the entire online audience.

The conversation that happened Live on Instagram (you can watch the replay here in case you missed it) was interesting and touched on several points. The questions ranged from what they drink in the morning to start the day (hot water before breakfast for Miuccia and coffee for Raf Simons, in case you are interested), how long have they wanted to work together, whether it is more difficult or easier to design a collection with another designer, up to how to become a fashion designer.

Miuccia Prada wanted to answer this last question that seems to be submitted by a 10-year-old girl passionate about fashion who dreams of becoming a fashion designer in which she asks for advice on how to get on the right path for this career.

“Study, study, study. ” Miuccia Prada said firmly. She didn’t mention what to study. But if you’ve been reading Glam Observer for a while, you know that studying fashion is not necessary to work in this industry. In fact, anyone who wants to work in fashion must be knowledgeable about much more than just fashion. Miuccia’s other tips refer to how there is a need for a 360-degree knowledge to work in fashion. We need to look what’s happening in the world, be updated on social and cultural issues:

“Read literature books, watch movies, look at art” continued Miuccia Prada.

“Fashion is not an abstract job. Clothes must be useful ”.

“Is anything authentically new anymore or is everything regenerated?” another interesting question submitted about the role of fashion designer that the duo answered during the conversation.

For those who dream of becoming a fashion designer, Raf Simons said it is your responsibility to bring the new to the fashion industry.

“Fashion in general, hopes for something new. Every designer wants to be new, but when you are in it for a few decades, it’s important to update your work. For me the new is something you have never seen before. It is therefore up to the new generations to bring the new. “

For Miuccia Prada, new, on the other hand, is the goal of all designers and her concept of new still has to be linked to something that must make sense.

The new is every single designer’s nightmare. The new that makes sense comes from society. “
