We’ve already talked about how to become a Public Relations expert , and for this article we decided to talk about being a PR person at a big and renowned company that plays a huge part in today’s fashion industry, LVMH.

LVMH or Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, was formed in 1987, and is a French multinational luxury goods conglomerate that controls many different luxury brands in fashion, wines & spirits, jewelry, retailing and lifestyle. Some of the most known brands and subsidiaries are Christian Dior, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Ruinart, Hublot and many more.

We have spoken to a few former LVMH employees and we decided to share their stories and experiences with you, so you can have a precise and interesting view from the inside. One thing they all had in common, was that working at such a powerful group was very enriching for their personal growth as well as their work experience. Secondly, is that working there, full time or even as an intern, opened many other doors and opportunities for them in the fashion industry.

Keep reading, we’ll share more of our insider’s perspective on working at one of the biggest groups in fashion.

Location

At which offices you work for LVMH can have a lot of impact on the experience you have there. For instance, working at the headquarters of a brand can be more interesting as it involves more decisions and responsibilities. It’s like being at the source of where the decisions are made and you’ll be able to see everything happening from scratch.

Working at a side branch can possibly involve less creative decisions, but that doesn’t mean the job cannot be fun and challenging. It involves following certain guidelines, made by the headquarter offices, when doing day-to-day work.

Experience

All the people we interviewed agreed that they gained so much experience from working at a big company such as LVMH. As established brands, they attract much attention of press and influencers, and allows you to meet a lot of interesting people working in the fashion industry. Next to being very beneficial for enlarging your personal network, your skills will also vastly improve. Working at these brands also means you get invited to all sorts of networking events, launching parties and other fun gathering.

As a large company, LVMH usually has good budgets for organizing events such as press conferences and blogger gatherings. These are a great opportunity to refine your event organizing skills and again, meet new people that matter in the industry. Most of the former workers we talked to, loved this part of the job the most. Sure, it gets hectic and busy, and might involve a lot of overtime as well, but seeing the event they organized going so well was a huge boost for their confidence.

Working at LVMH also involves a lot of pressure to deliver good work, but just like at any other company, it’s your job, so you should be prepared to give yourself for the full 100%. In comparison to working at a small company, at LVMH you are surrounded by a large team full of experts. This is the perfect opportunity for you to learn from them as well, as some might have a lot of experience in the field. You should use this wisely and don’t be afraid of going up to them and asking them for advice on a matter you’re working on.

Atmosphere

The type of atmosphere in a company definitely has an influence on whether or not you like working there. Open minded colleagues that help you with your challenges and support you through rougher tasks are great to have and very beneficial for your experience at the company. However, a bad atmosphere, even if the work is great, will weigh heavily on your abilities to work and it might bring you a lot of stress as well.

Luckily for those of you wanting to work at LVHM, the former employees had many good things to say about the work atmosphere over there. Sure, it’s possible to have one or two people in the team who aren’t really team players, but besides that they stated that the people working there treat each other with loads of respect. The key here is to learn to work with everyone in a team, even if some aren’t nice to work with.

While most of you might think working there is mostly in a stiff and formal environment, every birthday, event and achieved milestones are elaborately celebrated.  With the help of amazing cake and great tasting champagnes from Ruinart or Veuve Cliquot, all employees absolutely love the moments of team celebrations.

So, doesn’t it sound great to work at a big company like this? Starting as an intern is a great way of determining if you like the work there, and it might get you a full-time job afterward. Feeling inspired? Just go for it!
