Each Thursday we share with you a round up of the best fashion news of the week you need to know. Whether you want to work at a fashion company, or launching your own brand, is important to stay updated on the industry.

Glossier, the Instagram-made beauty brand has launched a new brand: Glossier Play. If the first brand Glossier believes in Skin First Makeup Second, this new brand is all about bold colors. With the launch of Glossier Play, Emily Weiss says she has plans to launch other beauty brands and becoming a conglomerate like EstĂ©e Lauder and L’Oreal.

Bad news for everyone working at Calvin Klein. The american brand is shutting down its collection business and laid off 100 employees – including Calvin Klein 205W39NYC’s President Michelle Kessler-Sanders, who will stay on until June – and plans to close its Milan office. The collection business was started by Raf Simons when he first joined the American brand in August 2016. At the end of 2018, Simons announced his departure and despite the company said it would relaunch Calvin Klein 205W39, the brand has decided to shut down its collections business altogether.

Another break up in fashion. Last week Gap Inc. announced that Old Navy was separating from its long-term partner Gap. A few months prior, VF Corp decided to uncouple its denim brands from Vans, The North Face and Timberland. Now Barington Capital Group, is pushing for L Brands Inc. to separate Victoria’s Secret from Bath & Body Works.

Kylie Jenner is the youngest self-made billionaire ever, according to Forbes. And despite disagreements on whether the reality star can truly be considered “self-made,” the magazine maintains that the 21-year-old baby of the Kardashian-Jenner bunch has achieved this financial milestone thanks to her own wildly successful makeup empire.

ABERCROMBIE & FITCH in 2018 closed 29 stores and in 2019 it will close up to 40 more. Gap closing 230 stores and Victoria’s Secret closing more than 50 are among the many retail-apocalyptic headlines we’ve read in just the past month. Over the past eight years, Abercrombie & Fitch has actually closed 475 locations. While brick-and-mortar may be suffering, the retailer hit a milestone for its online business, reaching $1 billion in annual digital sales across its brands with the majority coming from mobile.

Farfetch launched Farfetch Communities. The retailer has recruited the likes of ChloĂ« Sevigny, Riz Ahmed, Adwoa Aboah and Blondey McCoy to be part of Farfetch Communities and create content on the platform in the form of curated shopping edits or the sharing of daily inspirations. The company said the community will continue to grow and, apart from the famous names taking part, will include Farfetch’s in-house creative team, industry figures, local influencers and boutique owners who work with the platform. The idea is to bring together “people who are shaping the cultural landscape from all corners of the globe.” This will allow the retailer to start sharing content on a daily basis on its web site across its women’s, men’s and kids’ wear categories.

Diesel USA Inc., filed for bankruptcy in Delaware Tuesday. The unit of Italy’s Diesel SpA blamed plummeting sales, a botched turnaround, pricey leases and unwavering landlords — plus several instances of cyber fraud and theft.
