Some people may not look at you well if you say these words “I want to leave, I do not like this job” maybe because they have not yet found a job, but dealing with reality is very different.

Working in a fashion company is not like everything fun like parties and clothes. It means working hard weekends until late. Only once entered you’ll understand how this industry works. This post is not to discourage you, on the contrary. If you find the job you like in the company you love, staying up late and working weekends will be a pleasure, and if you’re at the beginning of your career, we’ve already explained that it’s a sacrifice you have to do.

Although getting a job in fashion because of the competition, there are times when, once inside, you could realize that is not the right job for you. This happens to everyone, is not you the problem.  It may happen that in your job is different from the job description or that the company’s values are not in line with yours.

Staying in a place where you do not feel at ease means not giving your best. The same is true if you do a job that you do not like. And this is bad for the company, and your boss will prefer (in the long run) that you admit it and say that you can not give 100% of yourself, clearly explaining the reasons.

But what if you want to leave immediately after starting?

The usual generic sentence: “I do not see future career opportunities in this company” or “I think I have learned everything I could and would like to change” cannot be applied in these cases because it is evident that in a few months these conditions cannot be clear.

If the job you do on a daily basis is not in line with the one established during the interview, then it’s easy: explain the situation and motivate your resignation. Tell them that during the interview you were told that you would be in charge of X, while now you are doing Y. It is always good during the interview to ask questions to the company about your role. It’s not just them who have to understand if you’re the ideal candidate, you also have to figure out if that job is right for you. Someone is going to miss some details or say something else to make the job more appealing, but always ask and in most cases, your real role will be clarified.

When you want to leave because you don’t like something related to the company, then it is more complicated to clarify, but we still have the solution. You could say that you have always been lucky to have worked for a long time in other companies, but in this case, you have made a wrong decision because this company has many strengths but it is: uncooperative, not structured, team-based, innovative … clarify what you do not like about the company.

No recruiter or boss will ever be happy when you leave, whether it’s three months or a year, because for them it means having to start the research again for the perfect candidate and all the handover, but do not worry about it. With education, report your motivations in a way they are constructive criticism, and respecting the notice times.

A 3-month job is not a black spot on your CV. It can happen to everyone to accept the wrong job, so during your next interview, explain it serenely without going into too much detail and criticizing the company. Nobody hires someone who speaks badly of previous experiences, whatever reasons.
