The career of each of us is never a straight line. It is difficult to find out what is your perfect job and you have to try different things before finding your dream career.

Especially at the beginning of your career, when you do not know what each role is about. We can be fascinated by the job title and the prestigious company, to discover then that going to the office every day to do those things is not for us.

This does not mean that every job we have before finding the ONE is a waste of time. Each experience teaches us something that we will bring with us and, probably without those experiences, we would not understand what our real passion is.

For example, I would not have understood that my dream is working on Glam Observer, until I started interning for a fashion company, even though I already started GO.

I was fascinated by fashion companies and cool job titles, and I thought that one day I would have liked to become Manager of a well-known fashion company. When I started working, I realized that in reality, what I liked was having my own company. I did not conceive of working for others when I could dedicate those hours to a project I already had in mind and started as hobby.

I worked hard during the ten months of my internship, and the idea of leaving work to work on Glam Observer did not go through my mind for five months. I was already writing for GO during my internship, but it was a hobby for me then. During the summer holidays, I started thinking, and I chose to believe in my project and carry it out dedicating it all the time.

It’s never too late to change the route. Think about what inspires and motivates you. For example, I was inspired by Emily Weiss, Sophia Amoruso, MrsRodial, girls who started their own business.

When you wish to have someone else’s work, that’s when you understand what your dream job is. It does not mean looking only at those who started their own business. In our interview series, you can read the stories of those who work at fashion companies and you could find one that inspires you.

I wanted to be like one of those girls who launched their own business, that’s why I realized that my previous job was not for me.

Many say, love what you do you’ll never have to work a day in your life, after a few months, I was not enthusiast about my job anymore, and every morning I wish the day passed fast so I could come home and work on GO at night. This was another sign I had to leave my job.

Sometimes we get so scared of change, I know it well. I had to decide if leaving my job to focus full-time on GO. I had to keep in mind that I probably would not have seen a salary for the first year and that I had only one job experience at my back. But this did not stop me. We only have one life but more opportunities to achieve our definition of success and happiness, so we need to do everything we need until we get it.

I was at the beginning of my career, but this also applies to those who already have ten years of experience. It may happen that you no longer have the passion for that industry or you’re bored at your job and be continuing working there, in the long run, will not lead you to anything, because then even the holidays and the salary will be able to repay you.

Here are some questions that will help you reflect if your current job is your dream job:

  1. Are you interested in the industry you are working? Do you keep yourself informed and read sites or books on the subject?
  2. Are you willing to work hard to achieve your company’s goals?
  3. Are you happy in the morning when heading to the office?
  4. What job would you do if you weren’t doing your current job?
  5. If you could, would you change your career?
  6. Do you get inspired by people and wish you had their jobs?

Answer these questions honestly and you’ll find out if your current job is your dream job. If you are in doubt, reflect, don’t be scared of change. Believe in yourself and your dreams.
