When it comes to getting a job in fashion you have to think beyond the standards and always keep in mind to use strategies to impress the recruiters, the editors, the brands…standing out is the rule.

500 people on average apply for the same job in fashion, so stop doing what everyone is doing: apply online by uploading a cv and a cover letter and then keeping the fingers crossed hoping to get a call from the brand: and add to this standard process other unconventional strategies to make it in the fashion industry.

I teach all about these strategies in my online course Break into the fashion industry, and being unconventional is the success secrets of my students and in this article, I want to give you some quick but key tips to get a job in fashion as a stylist, editor and designer.
If it’s true that you need to have an outstanding cv and cover letter, there is one more thing you can do to uplevel your application. For every career option there are specific strategies that work best and I teach them all in Break into the fashion industry, and below you’ll find one small tip to work as a stylist, write for a fashion magazine or get a job as a designer.

The secret to getting a job as a stylist is…

The #1 thing that matters the most when you want to get a job as a stylist is to email or send a message on Instagram to stylists asking if you can assist with anything even for a couple of hours per week or just for one shooting! The best way to start a career as a stylist is to become a stylist assistant, so start pitching all the stylists out there.

The secret to getting a job as a designer is…

The #1 thing that matters the most when you want to get a job as a designer is to prepare a brilliant portfolio. More than your CV and Cover Letter, your portfolio shows your design skills, work in process projects, patterns… Work on your portfolio and choose 3-4 of your best projects even WIP ones and submit it to the company. Submit the online version and bring the print version to the job interview.

The secret to getting a job at fashion magazine is…

The #1 thing that matters the most when you want to write for a fashion magazine is to submit to the editors your writing portfolio. Write 3 articles and submit them along with your cv and cover letter. Editors want to see how you write so, more than your CV or Cover Letter, a great writing portfolio will help you to get a job.

Check out my online program Break into the fashion industry if you want more details on how to land your job in fashion quickly whether you want to work as a stylist, editor, designer but also buyer, in marketing, merchandising..
